Every year until the end of the year, the bald cypress trees bloom right on time, becoming a must-visit photo spot in winter. The Rui Fu East Road in Taoyuan’s Daxi District, which has garnered much attention for its breathtaking and moving scenery, stretches 750 meters and is lined with nearly 300 bald cypress trees standing on both sides of the road, forming a true bald cypress avenue. Every autumn and winter, it paints a picture-perfect seasonal view. Now, this Taoyuan Daxi Rui Fu East Road, famous for its bald cypress trees, has been officially renamed “Bald Cypress Road” following an application by local residents, turning this well-known tourist photo spot into a beautiful legend.

Bald Cypress Road was formerly known as Lane 558, Shiyuan Road. It was a new alternative road to Yuanlin Road, opened by the local district office 15 years ago, when nearly 300 bald cypress trees were planted along both sides. Every autumn and winter, as the cypress leaves fall, the stunning scenery turns it into a hidden photo gem. Later, due to Taoyuan being upgraded to a municipality, Lane 558 was renamed Rui Fu East Road. However, as the number of winter visitors continued to soar, local residents decided to propose renaming the road based on its defining feature—eventually striving to have it officially named after the bald cypress.

Changing a road name involves updating IDs, bank records, and communication data for residents, which is no easy task. Many iconic spots across Taiwan have considered renaming, only to abandon the idea due to complicated procedures. The successful renaming of Rui Fu East Road shows just how much local residents cherish the place—and makes for a wonderful story.
