Zhuzihu is world-renowned for its sea of calla lilies. During the annual Calla Lily Season, it attracts over 600,000 visitors. After May, calla lily production begins to decline, and the flowers gradually enter their summer dormancy period. It is then that hydrangea blooms take over, becoming another must-see beauty in Yangmingshan besides the calla lilies.

There are numerous hydrangea farms in Zhuzihu, cultivating a variety of hydrangea species in a rich spectrum of colors — from pure white and pink with red edges, to pink, purplish-red, light blue, and blue hues. Both large-flowered and medium-flowered varieties are abundant, creating vibrant and layered colors that are beloved by many visitors.

The hydrangeas commonly seen in the market are what we call "Western hydrangeas." Originally from Japan, hydrangeas were later introduced to Europe, where they were improved to produce a wide range of vibrant colors such as red, pink, and reddish-purple, as well as large flower heads — becoming the Western hydrangeas we commonly see today.
