Take off in a dreamy hot air balloon ride！ A pet-friendly hotel in Taitung with a hot spring-fed pool

Can you imagine waking up and taking a dreamy hot air balloon ride to gaze at the blue sky, white clouds, and majestic mountain views? Just a 5-minute drive from Taitung’s Luye Gaotai, the Luming Hot Spring Hotel has specially designated an open green lawn where up to 50 guests can take a hot air balloon ride every morning. Due to increased summer vacation traffic, additional afternoon sessions have been added on holidays between July 1 and August 8.
The Luming Hot Spring Hotel covers a total area of 12 hectares, featuring a dedicated peach blossom forest area with a large open green lawn right in the center — the exact spot for hot air balloon rides. With advance booking and an early arrival with your hot air balloon voucher, you can secure your spot. Staff begin inflating the balloons with fans as early as 6:30 AM, and it takes about 10 to 20 minutes before they’re ready for passengers. The balloons are tethered, so they only ascend vertically without drifting elsewhere.

▲ Each hot air balloon accommodates four passengers and is accompanied by a guide who introduces the surrounding scenery during the flight and takes commemorative photos. Each ride lasts about 5–7 minutes.

As the hot air balloon ascends slowly, it periodically ignites to maintain temperature and control buoyancy and altitude. The ignition sound is quite loud, which might be startling at first, but it quickly gives way to the thrill of your first hot air balloon adventure. The four passengers follow the guide’s instructions to stand in designated spots to keep the basket balanced. Once everyone is in place, the balloon begins its gentle ascent. Throughout the 5–7 minute ride, the guide provides expert commentary on the stunning mountain landscapes. Even those with a fear of heights may retreat into their own world briefly, but despite the nerves, they still take in the rare opportunity to gaze from above. The more adventurous excitedly look around, thrilled just to be up in the balloon, snapping photos non-stop to preserve the unforgettable experience.

Speaking of what makes the Luming Hotel special, aside from being a hotel where you can take a “hot air balloon” ride, Chairman Pan Guilan also highly recommends trying the hot springs here. The hotel’s hot spring water comes from the Hongye hot spring source, supplied via three hot spring wells that serve the entire property. At Luming, all hot water is guaranteed to be hot spring water, while cold water is mountain spring water. For those who want to soak in 100% hot spring water, you can request the water to be drawn in advance and wait for it to cool to a comfortable temperature. Hot spring bath enthusiasts can visit the sixth-floor communal nude bath, which offers great daytime views through large transparent glass panels — blue skies, white clouds, and rolling mountains. In the evening, the ground-floor outdoor pool even shows movies, allowing you to swim, play in the water, and enjoy a film. Notably, the pool water is also hot spring water.
When introducing Luming, Pan Guilan also highlighted that over 80% of the hotel’s staff are locals, a much higher ratio compared to other hotels in the Hualien-Taitung region. In addition, as a pet owner herself, Pan has made Luming a pet-friendly hotel where guests can check in with their furry friends.
The Hualien-Taitung region is also known for its fresh local ingredients. Luming maintains a 3-hectare self-grown vegetable garden that has gone pesticide-free for nearly 20 years, using naturally flowing hot spring water for irrigation. Fresh vegetables are harvested daily in the afternoon and supplied to the hotel’s restaurants. Seafood and sashimi are purchased daily from Fugang Fishing Port. The hotel features the Ocean Bistro, a fine Japanese dining restaurant focused on low-carbon cuisine, as well as the Liangshi Buffet included with accommodation. The food emphasizes local produce, such as free-range chickens from Luye and pork from the Central Mountain Range valley.
