A unique attraction that only opened this year — the modern “Yu-Xiu Art Museum” nestled in Nantou’s mountain forests

Nantou has added another special attraction this year. Situated next to the Jiufeng Art and Ecology Park,the “Yu-Xiu Art Museum”boasts a modern architectural design that stands in striking contrast to the surrounding forest. Sunlight pours through stone-textured columns, evoking a refined and elegant ambiance.

The expansive garden often showcases unusual installation art, with small trees standing amid patches of greenery. The building itself is crafted using a special technique of fair-faced concrete, paired with cool-toned blue bricks and some glass, exuding a low-key luxurious modernity. The open-sided corridor reveals outdoor landscaping reminiscent of a small bamboo grove, adding a distinctly Eastern flair.

The museum focuses on “contemporary realistic art,” with its exhibition areas showcasing works by numerous domestic and international art masters. These include three-dimensional sculptures of figures created using wire mesh and light, as well as the “Body Landscape” series that explores the impact of genetic engineering and biotechnology on humanity. The museum plans to host a new exhibition every four months, allowing visitors to admire a wide variety of exquisite artworks, immerse themselves in rich visual art, and experience alternative aesthetics.

In addition to the exhibition halls, there is also a cultural and creative goods shop, where wooden tables display lifestyle items selected by the museum, such as accessories and tableware. On the left side of the entrance is the “Si Space,” a café that offers drinks and a place to relax for visitors.

What’s particularly special is that the “Yu-Xiu Art Museum” is a non-profit private museum. Businessman Hou Yingzhen and his wife Ye Yuxiu jointly funded its establishment and invited architect Liao Weili to incorporate the Eastern garden design philosophy of “one block, two guides, three connections.” Through the use of seemingly endless corridors and sloped light-filled spaces along the way, visitors gradually make their way to the main hall while enjoying views of lush greenery outside. This, combined with the elegant blue bricks indoors, creates an incredible spatial transformation.
