Yilan’s Version of Taiwan’s “Braun Boulevard” Opens Seasonally – Must-Photograph Golden Rice Waves

Located in the Sanqi Rice Fields area of Dongshan Township, Yilan County, the rice paddies turn into lush green waves every May. By June, as the grains mature, they form a vast golden highway. With the changing seasons, the landscape transforms magnificently, and the golden rice stalks and rural scenery attract many visitors to this annual pilgrimage site.

As the rice fields enter their golden phase, Dongshan Township Office has announced that the Sanqi Rice Path will be open to the public until June 30, 2018. Not only have observation decks been set up to allow visitors to admire the beauty of the rice waves from above, but ideal photo spots have also been provided for capturing the breathtaking expanse of the golden fields.

The Sanqi Rice Fields are known as “Yilan’s Version of Braun Boulevard.” Stretching approximately 2 kilometers in length and 5 meters in width, it lies between Fengzun Temple and Xiesong Road, featuring as many as nine S-shaped curves and no utility poles. During the rice harvest season each year, it resembles a giant dragon lying amidst golden rice, a truly spectacular sight.

This year, the Dongshan Township Office has also launched the “Sanqi Rice Wave Bicycle Light Tour,” which starts from Dongshan Railway Station. Visitors can cycle through the expansive rice fields, enjoy the scenic views along the way, pass by Shuihuo Tongyuan (a site where water and fire emerge together) and the Ren Shan Hiking Trail, and end the journey with a meal at Xingyuan Tea Garden — a relaxing and delightful way to experience Yilan’s landscapes.
