Koreans Are Obsessed Too: Taiwanese Sandwiches Conquer Seoul as a Must-Visit Spot

The old-fashioned sandwiches sold everywhere seem to be a staple of Taiwanese breakfasts, offering a variety of flavors by pairing with different ingredients such as eggs, ham, and cucumbers, which are loved by many. Now, a renowned Taiwanese old-fashioned sandwich shop “Hong Rui Zhen Sandwich” has expanded into South Korea, opening an overseas branch in the bustling Hongdae shopping district. Shortly after its launch, it has attracted crowds of visitors coming to pay homage.

Hong Rui Zhen Sandwich’s Seoul branch created quite a buzz in South Korea shortly after opening in March this year. Not only is the store decor adorable, but it also uses simple white tiles and glass cabinets to create a fresh style, bidding farewell to the traditional elements of old Taiwanese shops. It features a small and cute sandwich logo, giving off a trendy and fashionable design vibe from the inside out.

In addition to breaking away from tradition in store design, the sandwich packaging is also simple and adorable. The sandwiches are packed in colorful boxes that, while not overly elaborate, are still hard to resist. They match the refreshing style of the store perfectly, making for great photo opportunities.

Hong Rui Zhen Sandwich in South Korea offers only three flavors: the commonly seen ham and cheese in Taiwan, and a “Manhan” flavor that combines both ham and cheese. Each sandwich is priced between 1,600 and 1,800 Korean won, approximately 45 to 60 Taiwanese dollars, making it very affordable.
