When you're feeling down, going outdoors is a far better way to heal your mind than staying at home. In densely populated northern Taiwan, there are several places perfect for unwinding, clearing your head, and finding inner peace. When life gets overwhelming, head to these spots to recharge yourself.

1. Dadaocheng Wharf

Dadaocheng Wharf is a great place to unwind and clear your mind. It offers riverside scenery, container markets, cycling paths, and occasional community events. Lean on the railing or sit on a bench to enjoy the riverside views. Whether it's daytime, evening, or night, the scenery changes beautifully. The nearby container market also features small bars and international cuisine. Grab a bite, have a drink, and enjoy the riverside night view for a relaxing and comforting experience.

Located next to Guting MRT Station, Taipei National University of the Arts has picturesque spots all over its campus. From egrets on the grasslands and elegant red-brick school buildings to tree-lined art boulevards, buffalo herds, the Art University Bookstore, and Yixin Forest Trail, the area offers many beautiful scenes. At the plaza halfway up the hill on campus, you can overlook Guandu Plain and the Taipei cityscape. There’s also a café and outdoor seating area nearby. Sip coffee while gazing into the distance, or take a slow walk uphill along the campus slopes to enjoy the scenery. You can also browse books at the bookstore, observe the water buffaloes raised on campus, or simply relax on the grass.

Unlike traditional temple architecture, Nongchan Temple features an elegant and minimalist exposed-concrete design. In front of the temple is a “Moon on Water Pond,” where the reflections of trees and walls on both sides of the temple create a tranquil scene on the still water. The entire temple is simple, solemn, vast, and peaceful. Walking around and clearing your mind here allows you to feel the spiritual strength that religion brings, bringing tranquility to your heart.

Badouzi Park has walking trails, observation pavilions, seaside platforms, and the famous “Wangyou Valley.” This V-shaped valley between two mountains lets you enjoy sea views surrounded by lush greenery.
