Every August, Enoshima hosts the “Enoshima Lantern Festival,” an event that has been running for over a decade. As the sun sets, countless lanterns of all sizes gradually light up across the island. Enjoy a cool evening stroll along Enoshima’s paths, and don’t miss the highly popular “Enoshima Shadow Play” for a taste of Japanese cultural charm in the summer.

Wear a yukata or a jinbei to enjoy the “Enoshima Lantern Festival” and soak in the summer cultural ambiance of Japan.
From the island’s entrance to the farthest point at Iwaya, around 1,000 colorful lanterns are displayed, all themed around “The Heavenly Maiden and the Five-Headed Dragon,” telling the origin and history of Enoshima. Meanwhile, at Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden (江の島シーボルト庭園), you can experience the classic charm of traditional shadow puppetry every evening from 18:00 to 20:00.

The area is adorned with colorful lanterns themed around “The Heavenly Maiden and the Five-Headed Dragon.”
Additionally, on Tuesday, August 21st, at 7:00 PM, a spectacular 20-minute fireworks display will light up the night sky over Kugenuma Beach’s West Coast. Also, on August 25th and 26th, a special venue near Enoshima Observatory Lighthouse will host the “Enoshima Shadow Play,” using light, shadow, and live folk music to tell legendary tales of Enoshima.
