Going through airport security often causes psychological stress or even anxiety, as safety regulations become increasingly strict. Some items may defy our expectations — common things like hand cream or soap can surprisingly trigger bomb detectors in certain regions, leaving many puzzled. According toa special report by the UK’s Daily Mail,this is mainly due to the glycerin commonly found in lotions.

Glycerin can cause bomb detectors to yield a positive reading, with numerous cases reported in the United States in the past. Modern detection technology can sense not only bombs themselves but also the chemical materials used to make them.

Not just glycerin — even heart medication can be a problem.Some heart medications contain nitroglycerin, which is also one of the chemical materials used in bomb-making. People who frequently take such medications or handle them, such as medical staff, might unknowingly set off the sensors. What you might not know is that even golf clubs can be an issue, as they may carry tiny particles of fertilizer — ammonium nitrate — which is also a key ingredient in explosives.

Although these items typically produce false positives, according to the UK authorities, they still carry out strict checks to ensure the safety of all passengers.
