Pingxi’s biggest annual event, the “Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival,” will take place during the Lunar New Year. This year’s event features a special collaboration with up-and-coming illustrators, blending traditional sky lanterns with innovative art to create a unique festival experience. Additionally, this year also introduces the “Pingxi Experience Tour,” where visitors can release sky lanterns and also gain a deeper understanding of local Pingxi culture.

The 2019 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival will hold two grand lantern release evenings on February 16 and February 19 during the Lunar New Year. Friends who want to personally experience the breathtaking sight of hundreds of sky lanterns lighting up the sky must remember to pick up a free lantern release voucher at the event venue at 10:00 AM on the day of the event, and seize the opportunity to enjoy the stunning beauty of the sky lanterns.

Another highlight of this event is the special invitation to illustrator YaYa, who designed the main visual concept of the sky lanterns. With a minimalist, simple, and adorable artistic style, she captures the warm and friendly characteristics of Pingxi’s local culture, which is highly anticipated.
In addition to the Sky Lantern Festival, the New Taipei City Government has also specially launched local Pingxi tour packages, organizing the “399 Pingxi Experience Tour.” The itinerary includes releasing sky lanterns, tasting traditional Taiwanese snacks like草仔|磕IY (Note: appears to be garbled text), DIY cute sky lantern ornaments, guided tours of local history and culture, as well as exquisite small gifts. There are only 100 limited spots available for the tour, so sign up online quickly to reserve your place.
