Severe Typhoon Mangkhut (international name: MANGKHUT) is gradually approaching the Bashi Channel with its storm circle, posing threats to the sea areas around the Bashi Channel, Dongsha Island, and southeastern Taiwan. At 17:00 on the 14th, its center was located at 17.1°N, 124.9°E, approximately 680 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi, moving northwest at a speed of 28 kilometers per hour.

Due to the influence of the typhoon’s peripheral circulation, a heavy rain advisory has been issued for Kaohsiung and Pingtung on September 15, while a torrential rain advisory is in effect for Hualien and Taitung. Those planning to visit southern and eastern Taiwan this weekend should pay close attention to weather changes, prepare for rainy conditions, bring rain gear, and avoid entering mountainous areas.
Long waves are likely to occur along coastal areas near Taiwan (including Green Island and Lanyu), as well as in Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Currently, 2 to 5-meter-high long waves have appeared along the northern coast of Keelung, the eastern half of Taiwan, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Avoid going to the seaside. Areas north of Taichung, the southeastern part (including Lanyu and Green Island), the Hengchun Peninsula, and coastal open areas of Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu may experience strong gusts of wind at levels 9 to 11. The Greater Taipei area may also see gusts of about level 8, so extra caution is advised.
