Starbucks' First Container Store in Asia! Be the first to see the must-photograph all-white design.

Setting off from around the world and docking at Taiwan’s Hualien Bay, Starbucks' first container-based store in Asia — the Hualien Bay Store — grandly opened on September 26 in Hualien Hualien Bay.

Designed with stacked containers from around the world, carrying stories of past global voyages, this space now begins a new chapter at the Starbucks Hualien Bay Store.

The overlapping sections of the container structure feature large skylights that allow sunlight to pour in layer by layer, as if sunlight filtering through a forest — sipping coffee while immersed in nature echoes Hualien’s unique characteristic as a place specially blessed by nature, offering a special coffee experience.

The exterior of the store was designed by the master architect Kengo Kuma, adhering to the environmentally friendly regeneration concept of a “circular economy,” using29containers that had previously docked at major port cities around the world such as New York, Marseille, and Barcelona as the main structure. With a stacking concept, a four-story inverted pyramid-shaped building was created, giving new life to the containers.

In terms of the interior design, the original look of the containers is preserved, and it incorporates the vibrant colors of the indigenous Amis people of Hualien. Bold and colorful wall art pieces are used, or natural-textured printing techniques bring indigenous tribal patterns to every corner of the store.
