These ultra-cute balls of broom corn flowers create a spectacular sea of blooms that’s so healing you’ll wish you could live here. Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki Prefecture, about a two-hour drive from Tokyo, features different flower displays throughout the seasons. The most famous include the baby blue eyes (nemophila) in mid-April and the broom corn flowers in early October. The magnificent carpet of 4.5 million blooming broom corn flowers has even been hailed as one of the most romantic flower seas in the world and a must-see spectacle in a lifetime.

After the nemophila season ends each year, the broom corn flowers take the stage. Growing to about 80 cm tall, they start off lush green and then burst into vibrant red hues around early October, creating an astonishing sea of color.

Spanning 350 hectares, Hitachi Seaside Park is Japan’s largest national park. In addition to various flower zones, visitors can enjoy the adjacent children’s amusement park. You can also rent a bicycle to ride along the cycling paths for scenic views, or hop on the seaside train to cruise around while admiring the beautiful blue sea and white sandy beaches.
