The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) took 15 years from planning to construction and opening, marking the most significant cultural development in Taiwan in the past 30 years. The center will open its doors to the public this weekend at 11:00 AM, allowing visitors to explore its spaces, while the official inauguration ceremony will take place at 3:00 PM, featuring a concert format.

The inauguration concert will be conducted by Artistic Director Chien Wen-pin himself, with a joint performance by the Taiwan Philharmonic and the Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra. It will also feature internationally renowned organist Iveta Apkalna and Taiwanese musician Chen Yi-wei, principal sheng player of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, symbolizing heritage and innovation.

The first official performance, the “Unveiling – Radiant Brilliance” inaugural concert, will take place at 5:00 PM that day. It is the first concert held in Taiwan’s only vineyard-style concert hall, led by Chien Wen-pin, and will feature performances by the Taiwan and Kaohsiung symphony orchestras, showcasing works by renowned Taiwanese composers.

The most anticipated event, “A Party for Everyone,” will kick off at 7:00 PM on the outdoor lawn. It will be a collaboration between Europe’s leading creative arts team phase7 and over a hundred domestic performing arts groups, blending technology with tradition, as well as Eastern and Western art and culture.
The arts center utilizes various spatial venues to host a diverse range of artistic activities.
The creative team has also organized a drone performance, with 35 drones flying in formation in the sky, resembling a ballet of light, together creating a one-of-a-kind mega-scale opening ceremony. The event can accommodate 20,000 spectators for a shared celebration.
