Tian Fuzhen’s Daily Visuals, Designed by Her Herself—Asia’s First Surrealism Exhibition

Female photographer Maria Svarbova from Slovakia is known for her surrealistic and minimalist works. Her most widely recognized series is the Swimming Pools, where her unique color aesthetics and powerful imagery leave a deep impression, and she gained popularity in Taiwan after shooting the album cover for Tian Fuzhen in 2016.

In June this year, the long-term project “Art Angle Edition” initiated by Different Angle Art launched a crowdfunding campaign for Maria Svarbova’s first exhibition in Asia, which successfully reached its funding goal within a month.

Moreover, the amount raised far exceeded the crowdfunding target, and the limited edition of 100 photography books sold out within 15 days. This shows Maria Svarbova’s strong fan base in Taiwan, and the photography book will also be available again at the exhibition venue, giving those who missed out a chance to make up for it.

Maria Svarbova’s Asia debut exhibition is being held in Taiwan, grandly opening from October 20 to November 18 at the Taipei Expo Dome. In addition to the “Swimming Pool” series, the exhibition will also feature two other special collections: “Human Space” and “Plastic World.”

In Maria Svarbova’s works, one often sees models with rigid postures and expressionless faces performing everyday actions of life. Within the fixed roles in society, we repeat these actions day after day, either unconsciously or feeling powerless to change them. Through these seemingly magical virtual worlds, we can step back and reflect on the meaning of daily life.
