Autumn is here in Taiwan, and one of the most common natural wonders you’ll see is vast seas of white miscanthus flowers. In Taipei’s Yangmingshan National Park, there are several spots where you can admire these sweeping white—and slightly golden—miscanthus blooms, full of autumn charm and carrying a touch of rustic beauty.

The species of miscanthus commonly seen in Taiwan during autumn is usually “Miscanthus sinensis var. glaber,” a highly resilient plant often found in terrains or soils where other vegetation struggles to grow.

For example, in the volcanic terrain of Yangmingshan National Park, on slopes shrouded in volcanic mist, only miscanthus can survive, creating expansive seas of the grass. What’s especially unique is that every October, you can witness the rare beauty of bright red miscanthus tassels gradually blooming.
