Umbrellas shield us from wind, rain, and sun, but how much do you really know about this everyday essential? Located in Zhushan, Nantou, the 2,800-ping "Zangsan Pavilion Sightseeing Factory" is Taiwan’s only umbrella culture museum. In addition to stories about umbrellas, it also houses the world’s largest umbrella and a vibrant umbrella sky—admission is free.

Zangsan Pavilion originally started as an umbrella manufacturer and has a history of 33 years. In 2002, it combined Zhushan’s bamboo and wood industries with umbrella-making craftsmanship to establish the "Zangsan Pavilion Sightseeing Factory." The most unique feature is a giant umbrella with a diameter of 10.5 meters, a height of 7.2 meters, and a weight of 500 kilograms, claimed to be the largest umbrella on Earth. It opens and closes electrically, eliminating the hassle of manual operation.

Additionally, the umbrella corridor is a must-visit photo spot in the park. Looking up, you’ll see umbrellas of various colors and patterns hanging high in the air, lined up to form an artistic sea of umbrellas that offers viewers a wealth of imaginative possibilities—truly a spectacular sight.

Besides traditional umbrellas, the factory also showcases parasols, functional umbrellas, and leisure umbrellas. Visitors can also explore the early umbrella factory to learn about the manufacturing process. Strolling through the space feels like stepping back into the golden age of Taiwan’s "Kingdom of Umbrellas." With guides on hand to provide explanations, the tour takes about an hour. Travelers visiting Nantou may want to include this as a side trip.
