WeiRe ShanQiu, known for its brown sugar pineapple cakes made with Guanxi Mountain pineapples, introduced its second Taiwan-inspired product in July 2016 — the “Honey Rich Sugar Cake.” Starting August 1st, it’s available at its Taipei, Nantou, and Kaohsiung stores in two flavors: original and aged plum. The original flavor is priced at NT$300, while the aged plum version costs NT$350.

WeiRe ShanQiu’s new Honey Rich Sugar Cake replaces traditional refined sugar with more natural cane extract. The cake-making process and ingredient ratios break away from Japan’s traditional high-end honey cake standards (known as gozan-yaki). It uses fresh eggs from health-raised chickens, combining egg yolks and whites in a 6:4 ratio, along with Japanese flour. With no added oil or artificial additives, the cake is baked three times to achieve evenly distributed air pockets.

The aged plum flavor of the Honey Rich Sugar Cake uses an aged plum jam from Xiaolin Village in Kaohsiung, made with an exclusive pickling recipe and matured in oak barrels with Modena balsamic vinegar (Aceto Balsamico Di Modena), then aged for 10 years to add depth and layers to the cake.

From August 1st to August 21st, to celebrate the launch of the Honey Rich Sugar Cake, customers can purchase an additional box of the “Honey Rich Sugar Cake” for NT$250 at WeiRe ShanQiu stores. Flavors are not limited and supplies are limited daily, available while stocks last.
