The Harpa Concert Hall, situated by the bay of Iceland’s capital Reykjavík, resembles a giant, glittering, kaleidoscopic jewelry box that represents Iceland emerging from bankruptcy, greeting a new spring with its most beautiful posture after national adversity.

Located at the boundary between land and sea, the Harpa Concert Hall is a must-visit attraction for travelers to Iceland. It was jointly designed by the Danish architectural firm Henning Larsen Architects, the Icelandic design company Batteríið Architects, and Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.

Covering an area of 28,000 square meters, the concert hall offers expansive views as it sits by the bay, with endless ocean stretching out and distant mountains rolling in the background.

The outer layer of the building is made of light-transmitting materials, with the volcano-rock-like glass facade being the most eye-catching feature of the structure.

Iceland’s harsh climate has given its architecture a unique charm. Units inspired by volcanic rock formations form a 12-sided geometric structure supported by steel frames, allowing light to filter through and create kaleidoscopic patterns of light and shadow.
