In spring, many people travel to Japan or South Korea just to soak in the romantic atmosphere of pink flower seas and falling blossoms. But those who can’t make the trip shouldn’t be disappointed — the equally stunning and graceful goldenrain trees, particularly the yellow-flowered variety, can be enjoyed locally in nearby Taiwan and even Hong Kong!

Goldenrain trees are originally native to South America and Mexico, thriving especially well in tropical regions. In their places of origin, there are as many as15 different colors, ranging from purple to white. In Hong Kong, the most well-known varieties are the red and yellow goldenrain trees. Like cherry blossoms, goldenrain trees typically bloom from March to April in spring, but sadly their blooming period is short — flowers usually last only about a week from budding to falling. Those hoping to capture memories of these trees should be sure to plan accordingly!
