Tainan has a sandy area called “Dingtou’e Shoal,” also known as the “Qigu Desert.” It boasts vast land and wide-open views that give the illusion of being in a desert. Many people enjoy walking on the sand and feeling the breeze here. The sunset at Dingtou’e Shoal is also very beautiful, located right next to Guosheng Lighthouse, making it a must-visit spot for photography enthusiasts and a popular place for taking photos.

Dingtou’e Shoal is a coastal sandbar formed by the sediment carried by rivers in western Taiwan. Over time, these sediments were transported by ocean waves and gradually accumulated, emerging from the sea to form this long, narrow sandy strip.

The vast desert connects to the sea, and the fine sand on the ground gets quite hot under the sun. The sea breeze is strong, sculpting rippled patterns across the dry dunes. When the sun sets, the shifting light and shadows over the undulating sands become particularly striking, captivating many photographers who find it hard to leave.

Located in a remote and secluded spot, Dingtou’e Shoal resembles a lost desert oasis, quietly enduring the passage of wind and time. This kind of barren landscape is rare in Taiwan and bears similarities to Japan’s Tottori Sand Dunes.
