There are so many delicious foods in Japan, and the country is so vast. If you ask me which city has the best food, I can definitely tell you that Hokkaido would win hands down.
Fresh vegetables, abundant seafood, high-quality water, and a pristine environment...
Whether it’s the ingredients or the care put in by the locals, nothing compares to other cities.
Restaurant exterior
And the best Western meal I’ve had in Hokkaido was at this family-run restaurant. It’s truly hidden gourmet food, crafted by a local. From the bread, salt, to the milk served with coffee—everything is carefully selected by the owner. Most of the dishes are homemade, offering a taste you can’t find anywhere else. The restaurant is called Heart’n Tree, a family-style eatery opened in 1999, located in Tsurui Village in northeastern Hokkaido. The owner was drawn to the view from this small hill and decided to open the shop here.
Highlights of Heart’n Tree include:Five key features
1) The milk used is “Shiawase Milk” from the local Ritsunuma Farm, ensuring freshness.
(My friend and I took a sip of the milk served with coffee, and the flavor was incredibly rich, totally different from the usual.)
2) All dishes are handmade by the restaurant.
3) All food is additive-free.
4) The vegetables and dairy products used are all from Hokkaido.
5) The cheese is either homemade or from Tsurui Natural Cheese.

Milk Curry (with bread and fresh salad) 1,600 yen

Garden Lunch (changes from day to day) 2,100 yen

Appetizers

Beetroot pasta
Even though we were stuffed, the desserts here are not to be missed.
If you have the chance to visit, you must try their bread—it’s absolutely delicious.
Moreover, the herb salt served with the bread comes in three varieties:
0? Floral blend (rose flavor)
0? Green blend (bamboo leaves and thyme)
0? Yellow blend (calendula)

Super delicious homemade bread
The interior of the shop is also fantastic, located on a small hill with a sweeping panoramic view. Visiting in winter makes the wooden house feel incredibly warm, with snow stretching out as far as the eye can see while the restaurant stays cozy inside. Add in the buttery aroma of the bread, and you’ll instantly feel blissful.
