Tourist attractions often feature observation towers like Kyoto Tower or Taipei 101, allowing visitors to enjoy city views from above. In Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, the city of Ichon has combined the concepts of a café and an observation tower—with a twist. Here, visitors can sip coffee while dangling high above the ground.
The Universe Tower (Pyoseonheonpu) opened late last year, resembling a spaceship and becoming Asia’s first and the world’s seventh sky café. After purchasing drinks and tickets, visitors must store their belongings before being seated. Staff also provide container clamps at the counter for added convenience.
Each “spaceship” can carry 14 visitors up to 35 meters (about 12 stories) high in just 30 seconds, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Ichon area. However, the entire experience lasts only eight short minutes—will you choose to savor your coffee and scenery, or focus on taking photos?
One location, two attractions: next to the Universe Tower is the newly opened Starlight Garden OOOZOOO (Gyejeongbeop Pyoseon), Ichon’s new light-themed park. Designed with a cosmic theme, it features light installations crafted from bulbs in various shapes. The highlight is the 101-meter-long “Galaxy Tunnel 101,” the longest bulb tunnel in South Korea, creating a surreal, otherworldly atmosphere.
