T-Bike, the final piece of the public transportation puzzle in Greater Tainan, was recently unveiled and willofficially launch on August 8,according to the Transportation Bureau. The initial phase will feature ten T-Bike stations set up at locations such as Tainan Metropolitan Park, the Chimei Museum Cultural Park, and the Southern Taiwan Science Park. Over the next year,public bicycles will become widely available across the city where residents and tourists need them most. By March next year, the number of rental stations is expected to reach 50,ushering Tainan into a new era of low-carbon living.

The Tainan City Public Bicycle (T-Bike) system has a new positioning as “both a last-mile transportation tool and a leisure travel device,”offering the flexibility of renting from one location and returning at another. This makes it convenient for both residents and visitors as a point-to-point transport option. It accepts various payment methods, and users can access rental information via mobile app and website, register as members, and apply for smart cards. The system also provides multilingual rental instructions in Chinese, English, and Japanese—tailored to the needs of Tainan’s tourists—with Japanese being the only such service available in Taiwan. It is estimated that once the T-Bike system is operational, it will help reduce approximately 200,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually, contributing to a greener lifestyle.

The design of the T-Bike branding system is inspired by the concept of freedom and comfort in Tainan, envisioning a green, low-carbon city.The graphics use green and earthy tones to convey a more complete and easily recognizable meaning. The production and manufacturing of the bicycles and rental stations also involve collaboration between local industries and academic institutions, with bikes produced by local manufacturers. Future operation and management will also be carried out by local agencies.
