Taipei’s Chifeng Street Unnamed Spare Rib Rice
On Chifeng Street in the South Gate Business District sits an unmarked, nameless eatery with just four small tables — a bit cramped, but its spare rib rice is famous far and wide. Even food critic Hu Tianlan highly recommends it, and it’s a favorite lunch spot for department store clerks nearby. At noon, the line often stretches outside the door. The braised ribs aren’t overly soft but still have a nice bite, and the side dishes include not only greens but also a crispy fried egg.

Chiayi’s Unnamed Mutton Soup
No sign, no name, and it’s hard to even pinpoint when it opened — in Chiayi, there’s a “hidden gem” of an unnamed mutton soup shop tucked in front of a traditional Japanese-style house. It’s considered the best mutton soup by locals. “I think the mutton soup from my hometown isn’t too sweet or too salty, with a light angelica flavor — it’s the best,” said Mr. Su, a local from Chiayi.

Tainan’s Unnamed Rice Cake
The texture of the rice cake here is on the moister side with higher stickiness. Although I personally prefer grains that are more separate, this texture is still pretty good. The minced pork is well-seasoned and flavorful, with the fatty cubes being juicy but not greasy. The combination of the minced pork and shredded fish enhances the overall taste of the rice cake.
