On the evening of December 1, 2018, the Miss Asia China Finals for the Greater China region were grandly held at the European-American Cultural Town in Huizhou. The event opened with a dazzling fountain light show, followed by a synchronized dance performance by the contestants, heralding their bold entrance. A well-known Hong Kong celebrity singer lent strong support, as 22 contestants from across the country stepped onto the finals stage, clad in their battle attire, marching proudly to vie for their own shining moment!
After three hours of intense competition, the Miss Asia Finals crowned 15 individual award winners and the top 10 national finalists. The championship crown once again went to Guangzhou, with contestant No. 12, Li Danyang, being named the national winner. Hosted by Lau Pak Hang, along with 2017 champion Ms. Ho Tan Nei, they jointly presented the exclusive champion’s crown, scepter, sash, and cape to Li Danyang.
That evening, Mr. Wong Ka Sai, CEO of Asia Television Holdings Limited, and Mr. Ho Lai Chu, CEO of Asia Television Digital Media Limited, were present to cheer on the contestants from the Greater China region.
Mr. Lau Pak Hang, General Manager of the Performance and Beauty Pageant Affairs Department of Asia Television and Principal of the ATV (Shenzhen) Performing Arts Training Centre, served as the chief planner of the evening. He shared stories about the golden era of Chinese pop music with the audience and even took the stage himself to perform a medley of classic film and TV theme songs and the song "Chameleon," showcasing his chivalrous charisma. He also personally announced the upcoming opening of the ATV (Shenzhen) Performing Arts Training Centre, taking over from the ATV Star Training Class, to discover the next rising star nationwide. With the most professional training system, comprehensive curriculum, top-tier faculty, and rich film and television resources, the centre aims to nurture the most successful idols, actors, and singers.
"Lumberjack" Lee Lung Kee kicked off the night with the song "Superstar," singing praises of the contestants’ bright futures. Former ATV heartthrob and male icon Chen Ting Wei reprised the gambling king charm from "I Come From Chaozhou," looking as dashing as ever. Cantonese music legend Yip Zan Tong closed the show with the beloved hit "The Great Wall Will Never Fall," prompting the entire audience to join in a rousing sing-along.
