Recently, the 2012 Jining Cyclists' New Year Grand Gathering, jointly organized by Jining Evening News, Jining Forum, and Jining Yuanhang Cycling Club, was held at Jining Hotel. Nearly 200 cycling enthusiasts from various industries across the city participated.
The event began with a showcase of the outstanding achievements of Jining’s cycling community over the past year. Among them, the majority of riders had cycled over 10,000 kilometers within a year, which greatly impressed the reporters. This was followed by a series of heartfelt messages and enthusiastic songs and dances from the cyclists, which warmed up the atmosphere. The excitement peaked when guest performers, including farmer-singer Guo Yinzhu—who has appeared on CCTV programs—sang to entertain the crowd.
Since cycling activities were introduced to Jining in 2008, the community has grown rapidly to over 20,000 participants in just three years. Cyclists in cycling gear can now be seen exercising all over the city—in downtown areas, Zoucheng, Jiaxiang, and beyond. Cycling has also evolved from a simple fitness activity to one where many riders actively participate in environmental protection and public welfare initiatives. As a leading figure in Jining’s cycling scene, Jining Jincao has attracted significant media attention, with multiple reports and interviews by provincial and municipal media outlets. In October 2011, Jining Jincao was even invited by a Jiangxi radio station for a cross-provincial interview, where they had an in-depth exchange with audiences in Jiangxi about Jining’s cycling activities and the role of local cyclists in promoting the city. Undeniably, cycling has become a means of spreading urban civilization and showcasing city development.
