Guizhou Province, located in the mountainous southwestern region of China, plans to create a series of branded events centered on mountain outdoor sports in 2012. According to preliminary statistics, the province will host 103 various competitions at international, national, and provincial levels in the new year.
Reporters learned from the Guizhou Provincial Sports Bureau that among the more than 100 events planned, there will be six international competitions, including the Asian Cross Country Championships, the Zhenning Huangguoshu International Half Marathon, the Qiandongnan Ultra 100km Running International Challenge, the China Open Boxing Tournament, the Asian Canoe Slalom Championships, and the International Youth Men's Basketball Four-Nation Tournament.
Focusing on the characteristics of mountain outdoor sports, Guizhou will organize a series of events such as the National Mountain Bike Championship, the Fanjing Mountain Cycling Challenge, the National Mountain Outdoor Championship, and the Ziyun Getu Rock Climbing Challenge to enrich the offerings in mountain outdoor sports.
At the same time, Guizhou is also preparing to hold the "Colorful Guizhou" Outdoor Sports Carnival. The event will invite outdoor sports enthusiasts from both China and abroad to gather in Guizhou to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, fully experiencing the province’s rich ethnic culture and unique, beautiful natural scenery.
Cai Guoxiang, Director of the Guizhou Provincial Sports Bureau, said that Guizhou has a complete range of terrains including plateaus, sub-plateaus, and plains, and boasts abundant resources for mountain outdoor sports. The province will continue to integrate competitive sports and ethnic sports, focusing on the features of mountain outdoor activities to develop a series of branded competitive and mass sports events, attracting more professional athletes and sports enthusiasts to experience the charm of Colorful Guizhou.
