The parking lot of the Chiayi Municipal Museum has decided to start charging fees,Starting September 1, it will switch from being free to charging NT$20 per hour. This change is mainly due to the large crowds that poured in after the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Mall opened last year, leading to an insufficient supply of parking spaces. From September, the lot will be operated under contract to meet the user-pays principle.

Last year, the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Mall grandly opened, but because its underground parking charged NT$50 per hour, many people opted to park for free at the nearby museum parking lot. This caused all 71 spots to be fully occupied every day, and some even chose to park illegally on the roadside, leading to traffic congestion. To improve management quality in the parking area, the Chiayi Municipal Museum has decided to contract out the parking operation to provide a safer parking environment for the public. However, this also means paying NT$20 per hour, marking the end of free parking.
