A bicycle with an astronomical price tag of 129,900 yuan made its debut at Wulongshan Park in Chengdu. With a price that exceeds many ordinary small cars, this bicycle has been dubbed the “F1 of bicycles” by numerous cycling enthusiasts who came to take a look. Ren Chengyuan, a member of China’s national mountain bike team and a world champion, said she hopes to use it to compete in the London Olympics.
It is understood that this bicycle, priced at 129,900 yuan, is made in the United States and was co-developed with the F1 MCLAREN team. Whether in terms of speed, weight, or design, it is considered perfect, hence earning the title “F1 of bicycles.” According to Tiger, a professional from the bike's team: “The main frame of this bike is made of carbon fiber, weighing only 6.5 kilograms, and has undergone 21 wind tunnel tests — a test level usually reserved for supercars.”
Because the bicycle is so light, its speed is even more astonishing. It can reach a top speed of 100 km/h when going downhill, and its usual speed ranges between 40-60 km/h. Previously, many Tour de France champions have used similar bicycles in competition. Over 20 bikes on display at the event were each priced between 20,000 and 30,000 yuan. Tiger noted that these bikes are no longer just means of transportation but are top-tier fitness equipment, with annual maintenance costs of over 2,000 yuan. He added that unless you’re a professional rider or an enthusiast, there’s no need to buy such an expensive bike.
On-site visitors got to feel its weight firsthand — it could even be easily lifted with one hand by a 7-year-old child. While taking photos, everyone marveled that the price of the bicycle could buy two ordinary small cars, adding that it’s truly unaffordable for non-professionals.
