Visiting relatives, feasting on rich food, and enjoying long, cozy naps... The 7-day Spring Festival holiday is relaxing and enjoyable. But if you don't want your waistline to expand or feel sluggish, why not take advantage of the break to work out a bit amid all the eating and entertainment? By regulating your mental and physical condition, you can “recharge” your body and face the new year in good health and high spirits.
  Skiing
Recommended reason: Skiing has now become one of the emerging sports in Weifang. Gliding easily and joyfully on the slopes allows locals to enjoy the boundless fun of skiing. Although skiing across the long distances of low mountainous and hilly terrain may not offer the thrill and charm of alpine skiing as seen on TV, it is safer and more accessible for broader participation from a fitness and safety perspective.
Recommended locations: Qingzhou Tuoshan Ski Resort and Anqiu Qingyunshan Ski & Grass Sled Resort.
Health tips: Due to strong sunlight reflection on the snow, it’s essential to wear colored goggles to protect your eyes. Skiing is a relatively complex sport, so do some light warm-up exercises beforehand. Also, maintain a safe distance from others to avoid collisions.
  Hiking in the wild
Recommended reason: On good weather days, heading outdoors with family or friends to breathe fresh air and immerse yourself in nature is truly delightful. Hiking is one of the simplest ways to help treat myopia—gazing into the distance at high altitudes helps relax eye muscles. Moreover, hiking and enjoying the view not only lift your mood but also serve as a great way to stay active and relaxed during the Spring Festival.
Recommended locations: Fuyan Mountain, Linqu Yishan Mountain, Qingzhou Yunmen Mountain, and Qingzhou Yangtian Mountain.
Health tips: Take moderate breaks. For example, it’s good to rest three to four times during a one-hour hike; choose appropriate footwear.
In addition, tennis and table tennis are great for friendly matches during the holidays, and traditional activities such as jumping rope are also a lot of fun. Reportedly, Weifang Tianma Fitness Club will be closed from Lunar New Year's Eve to the third day of the first lunar month, reopening from the fourth day between 12:00 and 20:00, and resuming normal hours on the eighth day. Weifang Heijunma Fitness Club remains open during the Spring Festival, operating from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with normal business hours resuming on the sixth day.
Meanwhile, keep these key points in mind when exercising during the holiday:
  1. Progress gradually — start with low intensity and increase it slowly. Don’t overdo your workout volume all at once.
  2. Warm up thoroughly. Winter temperatures are low, and outdoor exercise means your body’s organs function at a lower level, while muscles and ligaments are stiffer. So, if you participate in sports activities during the holidays, make sure to spend ample time warming up.
  3. Choose multiple sports. Holiday physical activities should reflect the principle of overall body conditioning, aiming to engage various body parts and systems. Combining different sports wisely can double your fitness results.
