Skiers glide through the season's prime juhyo (Zaō Onsen Ski Resort)
According to Japanese media reports, recently, the Zaō Onsen Ski Resort in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, has entered the peak viewing period for juhyo.
At 9:00 a.m. local time on the 19th, the temperature in the area around 1,500 meters above sea level was -7.8°C. Skiers were freely carving through the juhyo, known as "ice monsters."
According to the Zaō Onsen Tourism Association, heavy snowfall around Christmas last year made this year’s juhyo spectacle truly spectacular. The tourism market has been struggling due to the impact of the earthquake disaster, so the association is actively encouraging visitors to come and explore the area.
It is reported that from January 21 to the end of February, the ski resort will also hold evening light-up events starting at 5:00 p.m. every day.
