1. Leave unnecessary important documents at home
Essential identification such as a driver’s license or passport must be brought, but items like bank account details or medical records do not need to be taken out, as losing them can directly lead to personal information being stolen.

2. Avoid using public Wi-Fi
Whether you’re at the airport, a café, or a hotel, try to avoid using public Wi-Fi. It’s best to use a virtual private network (VPN) or your personal hotspot for connectivity. Also, avoid making credit card payments, visiting sensitive websites, or checking your bank account over public Wi-Fi. These actions only increase the risk of exposing your personal information.

3. Control your urge to share constantly
When you’re traveling far from home, there’s no need to broadcast too many details on Facebook, as it provides the perfect opportunity for criminals to track your whereabouts.If you really want to share, it’s better to wait until you get home.

4. Update your devices before traveling
Many computer software programs have security vulnerabilities. In late July, Apple just released an update that reduces the risk of hackers infiltrating iMessage. So, before you leave, it’s a good idea to update essential software.

5. Change your passwords after returning home
After returning home, consider changing your bank passwords or email passwords.
