International Culinary Competition at the Food Expo: Macau Wins Gold, Taiwan Takes Silver

The 2016 Taiwan Food Expo concluded today (8th), attracting a total of 154,797 visitors over its four-day run. The "International Culinary Invitational," which brought together top chefs from eight Asian countries, also held its finals today. In the end, the Macau team, led by one-Michelin-star chef Leung Yiu-wah, clinched the "Grand Gold Chef Award" with their superior skills, while the Taiwan team earned recognition with the "Gold Chef Award."

The "International Culinary Invitational" finals featured the Taiwan and Macau teams. At 9:30 a.m., the "mystery ingredients" were revealed: soft-shell turtle, giant grouper, precious chicken, Taiwanese beef, indigenous millet, Taiwanese oolong tea, and Taiwanese coffee — all seven had to be used in the dishes. The competition ended at 1:30 p.m., with the judging results originally scheduled to be announced at 2 p.m., but the winner, the Macau team, wasn’t declared until after 3 p.m.

Apart from the Macau and Taiwan teams, the Singapore team won the "Silver Chef Award," while Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong all received the "Bronze Chef Award."
