The Deputy Secretary for Transport and Housing of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Qiu Shing-wu, said that the trial plan for self-drive tours between Guangdong and Hong Kong, which will be implemented in March, will initially only allow private cars from Hong Kong to travel to the mainland. Details such as quotas, fees, and procedures will be announced later.
According to Hong Kong media reports, the Legislative Council's Panel on Transport of Hong Kong has requested the SAR government to hold a special meeting to explain the details and arrangements for self-drive tours of mainland vehicles to Hong Kong. Qiu Shing-wu stated that there are currently no details or confirmed timeline for when private cars from the mainland can travel to Hong Kong under the second phase of the Guangdong-Hong Kong self-drive tour trial. Relevant parties need to continue discussions and consultations with experts, and a report will be submitted to the Legislative Council's Panel on Transport on March 1.
At the meeting held by the Legislative Council's Panel on Transport on the 6th, DAB legislator Tam Yiu-chung expressed support for the authorities' self-drive tour policy but hoped that the SAR government and relevant mainland departments would properly address the safety issues involved.
