The American Hiking Society will mark its 20th National Trails Day (NTD) on June 2, 2012. This event brings outdoor lovers from around the country together to enjoy the U.S.’s well-developed trail systems and the many supporters and volunteers. More than 2,000 nationwide activities will take place, including trail maintenance, hiking, kayaking, cycling, horseback riding, birdwatching, running, and various trail celebrations.
To commemorate 20 years of celebrating and maintaining America’s walking trails, the theme of the 2012 National Trails Day is "America’s Biggest Gathering of Walking Parties"—move your party from the pavement to the scenic, fresh-air trails. By connecting with local outdoor clubs, businesses, community groups, parks and recreation areas, as well as federal land management agencies, come experience, appreciate, and share those majestic landscapes.
