The North Face?/FONT>----------February 12, 2012, Beijing: Organized by the world-renowned outdoor brand The North Face?/SUP>and sponsored by it, the 2012 The North Face?/SUP>China Extreme Freeride Ski Challenge was spectacularly staged at the Chongli Dolomiti Ski Resort. As the most premium snow season event in China to date, this year's competition featured a super course newly designed by two renowned international slope designers from Italy and Ireland, attracting a total of 240 amateur snowboarding and skiing enthusiasts from across the country to register. The competition crowned four champions: Liu Yan in women's snowboarding, Xu Huanhuan in women's skiing, Wang Zhixun in men's snowboarding, and Sun Shaoxuan in men's skiing. They will embark on an extreme freeride journey to New Zealand this August, courtesy of a joint sponsorship by Air New Zealand and The North Face,?/SUP>to challenge alpine freeriding and experience high-end helicopter skiing.

?/SUP>Following the successful hosting of the China Extreme Freeride Ski Challenge, this 2012 edition brought skiing enthusiasts the most anticipated snow event of the season with more comprehensive planning, a more perfectly designed course, and more mature operations. The competition adopted a two-day format: the first day’s qualifiers determined China’s top 32 extreme skiing elites, and the second day’s finals crowned one male and one female champion each in both snowboarding and skiing. As the first extreme-style super slope in China, the course of this competition was custom-designed by two internationally acclaimed snow slope design experts from Italy and Ireland. Unlike other ski parks and slopes within domestic resorts, this competition slope was inspired by the format of international freeride competitions. Nestled among the birch forests beside the Bologna slope at the Chongli Dolomiti Ski Resort and following the steep incline of the mountain, it features numerous jumps, wave runs, and sharp turns—both considering the skill level of domestic skiers and aligning with the difficulty of today’s international mainstream skiing challenges. This allows participants to experience the thrill of extreme skiing while also getting a taste of the latest international skiing techniques, laying a solid foundation for future participation in higher-level competitions. This is also one of the original intentions behind The North Face’s?/SUP>sponsorship of this event.
Meanwhile, The North Face?/SUP>is committed to promoting the culture of extreme skiing in China. By organizing high-level competitions, it aims to elevate the athletic and competitive standards of domestic skiing enthusiasts and to let more people learn about The North Face’s?/SUP>premium skiing equipment.

The North Face?/SUP>sports marketing manager Sun Tuo commented: “Ski mountaineering and skiing off-trail in remote mountains represent a new trend that is completely different from traditional competitive skiing. The North Face?/SUP>also sponsors a large number of outstanding extreme athletes engaged in this sport, with international stars continually emerging. The North Face?/SUP>hopes to bring this new form of sport to China through this competition, allowing Chinese skiers to experience the charm of freeriding. We’re also pleased to see the rapid improvement in the skills of China’s extreme skiing athletes. Providing protective gear suitable for extreme cold has always been a traditional strength of The North Face.?/SUP>The North Face’s?/SUP>international R&D center has also developed specialized ski apparel for freeride sports, capable of withstanding a variety of extreme conditions.
The North Face?/SUP>It has also become the official clothing sponsor for the U.S. Ski Team at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia. There is much more to look forward to from The North Face?/SUP>in terms of innovative products for freeride sports.”
