The first National Mountain Outdoor Sports Skills Challenge will be held in late May this year. Yesterday, the route planning for the event was largely completed. At that time, outdoor sports experts from across the country will gather at the Nanxi River to compete in three major events: rope skills, field skills, and water skills. According to a responsible person from the National Mountaineering Sports Administration, this event will be permanently based at the Nanxi River and promoted as a nationally renowned outdoor sports brand.
According to reports, the three-day event features a tightly packed and highly engaging schedule. In the rope skills competition at Yanxiaku of the Nanxi River, participants will demonstrate rescue hoisting operations as well as challenging maneuvers such as double-rope descent and high-altitude node crossings. During the field skills competition held at the Longwantan Scenic Area, the time-limited orienteering race combines fun and technique, featuring a 100-meter target race, a 13-kilometer mountain biking race on rural roads, and a 3-kilometer mountain trail orienteering challenge testing wilderness survival skills. The water skills competition in the central area of the Nanxi River includes events such as swimming with a teammate, kayak drifting, simulated boat repair, and rope escape scenarios, all designed to comprehensively evaluate the physical endurance and outdoor survival skills of the competing teams.
Lü Junwu, a member of the Chinese Mountaineering Association and secretary-general of the Wenzhou Mountaineering Association, explained that this event is open to outdoor sports clubs nationwide and university outdoor activity organizations. Teams must register as units, with each team consisting of five members (including at least one of the opposite sex). All participants must be between 18 and 50 years old and in good health.
It is reported that the event is being held at the Nanxi River due to a site inspection trip conducted by officials from the National Mountaineering Sports Administration last year. Following the inspection, the administration specially tailored the National Mountain Outdoor Sports Skills Challenge to highlight the unique features of the Nanxi River. The event has been scheduled to be held annually, with plans to continuously expand its content and develop it into an outdoor sports brand that emphasizes both skill mastery and recreational fitness.
