As a national photography competition themed “Hometown of Chiyou · Xinhua Meishan,” the first major highlight of this year, “Green Xinhua · Spring Charm” — “Love Fills Meishan” National Hundred-Couple Wedding Photography Competition, will be held from April 25 to 30 at the Xizhou Terrace in Xinhua, which boasts two thousand years of farming culture.
The “Hometown of Chiyou · Xinhua Meishan” National Photography Competition includes four major thematic events — “Green Xinhua · Spring Charm,” “Passionate Xinhua · Summer Charm,” “Golden Xinhua · Autumn Charm,” and “Classic Xinhua · Winter Charm.” Each seasonal theme is paired with uniquely designed supporting activities. For example, under the “Spring Charm” theme, there is the “Harmonious Meishan: Love Fills Meishan National Hundred-Couple Wedding Photography Competition”; under the “Summer Charm” theme, there is the “Green and Environmentally Friendly: Beautiful Meishan National Nude Photography Competition”; and under the “Autumn Charm” theme, there is the “Charitable Love: Hope Journey Photography Competition in Loving Meishan.”
According to the schedule set by the organizing committee, the photography entries will be judged and awarded by the end of December 2012. The competition features six award categories, with the top prize for a single photo reaching up to 80,000 RMB. After the awards are announced, from January to February 2013, the organizers will hold a national touring exhibition of all winning works.
Historical research confirms that Xinhua County is the hometown of Chiyou, one of China’s three great ancestors and the God of War. Xinhua is also known as Meishan and possesses a profound historical and cultural heritage, distinctive and legendary within Chinese culture. Its humanistic history is referred to as Meishan Culture. To commemorate the Chinese ancestor and God of War Chiyou and promote Meishan Culture, the People’s Government of Loudi City, Hunan Province, in collaboration with the China Photographers Association, organized this national photography competition themed “Hometown of Chiyou · Xinhua Meishan.”
The competition officially launched in October 2011 and is scheduled to conclude in February 2013, spanning the entire year of 2012.
