Judges "diagnose" the dreams
Since the launch of this year’s campaign in mid-December, the proposal collection has entered its climax. While a large number of high-quality proposals have continued to emerge, the judges have also noticed many shortcomings in the design of the proposals.
Liu Yanlin, former president of Peking University’s Mountain Eagle Club and one of the judges for the professional mountaineering group in this campaign, noted that in the February championship proposal selection, the "Everlasting Snow Mountain (Unclimbed Peak) Climbing Plan" and the "Year of the Dragon Dragon Ridge Climb" were evenly matched, but in the end he gave the highest score to the latter. "Climbing the Everlasting Snow Mountain is a technical route, and it's an unclimbed peak—very much worth attempting. Unfortunately, the submitter did not mark the detailed route planning on the mountain photos, which, for a professional team, is a significant loss."
Jia Xu, judge for the trekking group and brand marketing director of OZARK GEAR (Osprey), focused more on the safety of team travel. "Many proposals have reasonable itineraries and route planning. But regrettably, most proposals do not provide contingency plans, nor do they offer detailed budget planning." Jia Xu stated that although these issues may seem minor, they are crucial for a route to become a truly feasible "good" proposal.
Speaking of the highlights from the past two months, Liao Jia, judge for the outdoor travel group and a professional traveler, was quite impressed by the "Ali Outer Loop" proposal. "This is a rather eye-catching proposal. The team has extensive experience traveling in Tibetan areas, the proposal is highly executable, and there are great expectations for the Ali Outer Loop travel guide to be written after the trip." However, regarding the mode of travel, Liao Jia offered some advice: "The team is relying solely on rented vehicles, which obviously lacks the flexibility and authority needed for gathering guidebook materials."
The famous explorer Jin Feibao, as a judge for the extraordinary outdoor group, has particularly meticulous requirements for proposals. He offered suggestions for the January monthly champion proposal, "Motuo Environmental Protection Journey": "The cost budget should also include expenses for producing environmental protection promotional materials, road signs, and subsequent promotional items."
From the above analysis by the expert judging panel, do you now have a clearer idea of what conditions a good outdoor dreams travel proposal needs to meet? Then what are you waiting for? Hurry up and submit your "perfect" travel plan!
The campaign’s proposal submission deadline is the end of May, with two months remaining. Gore, along with partners Kolon Sport, Ozark Gear (Osprey), Toread (Explorer), Black Yak (Bulayake), adidas, Lowa, Lafuma, La new, Millet, Merrell, Northland, and Salewa brands, will continue to offer generous prizes for the monthly and annual champions.
Even if you’ve already submitted a proposal but didn’t win an award, don’t be discouraged. This year’s campaign continues its cross-industry collaboration with car brand Subaru to launch the "Subaru Special Route." In addition to the four annual champions, one team among all participants will receive support from Gore and Subaru in the form of a Forester SUV, travel funds, and equipment to fulfill their dream.
