The ice cream names here are super fun—a new Taoyuan shop that’s all about “red beans” and hipster vibes!

There are more and more unique ice cream shops in Taoyuan. This one, called You Shi Hou Red Bean, just opened in August near the Zhongzheng Arts and Cultural District, close to Tongde High School. That day, we had lunch at Molly’s Burger first before heading here for a cool treat. We visited during the trial period and waited about five minutes until opening time—just in time to be their first customers.

It’s located on a corner, but parking nearby is tough. We recommend riding a bike or parking along Zhongzheng Road and walking over.

Since we visited during the trial period, we got a second bowl at half price.

The first floor is for ordering—you pay upfront and just wait for your order. If you want to dine in, the seating is on the second floor.

After eating, you need to bring your dishes back down to the first-floor collection area. I found the counter design a bit lacking—the space is really small. My friend and I almost couldn’t fit our two servings there.

The menu mainly features red bean flavors, but some signature items have playful names like “You Shi Hou Sunny Day,” “Rainy Day,” and “Mysterious Mystery.” There was no physical menu that day—we ordered directly, and they also had some winter-exclusive desserts.

The second floor has a lower ceiling but is designed with a hipster aesthetic. The lighting is nice, especially near the windows, which are quite bright.

Another corner has sofa seating—the most comfortable area in the place.

The bright decor includes dried flowers, books, and old window elements. It’s a great spot for taking photos with your ice treats.

The tables and chairs by the window resemble a bar setup, so it’s totally fine to sit alone—it doesn’t feel weird if you’re just here for ice cream.

After you decide what to order, you’ll get a receipt to pick up your ice upstairs. The staff weren’t fully practiced yet, so it took a bit longer to prepare the orders.

While waiting for our food, we checked out the toppings—they all looked clean, and there were quite a few options.

The tapioca balls and sweet rice balls are made fresh daily and looked really tasty.

Some items: “Mysterious Mystery” $80, “Red Bean Milk Baked Pudding” $90 (daily limited)

My friend and I each got an ice dessert. She chose the daily-limited Red Bean Milk Baked Pudding, which was topped with lots of crispy cornflakes and a big pile of red beans.

The pudding was like the homemade egg puddings common in Tainan—you could taste the egg flavor—but both the pudding and the red beans were super sweet, plus there was a lot of condensed milk poured on top. It was honestly too sweet for me, and since they don’t offer water, my mouth felt sticky afterward.

I was curious about what “Mysterious Mystery” was, so I ordered it—the name is really fun.

It came with five toppings, but to my surprise, one of them was almonds—which I hate…ugh. So next time, I’ll definitely ask what the toppings are beforehand—or the shop should list them clearly to make ordering easier.

It included grass jelly, sweet potato balls, red beans, tapioca pearls, and almond jelly, all on top of shaved snow ice.

Actually, it was my first time here and I didn’t know what to get, so I just randomly ordered something. When we got upstairs, the air conditioning didn’t feel very cool—the room temperature was pretty high—so the ice melted pretty fast. The sweet potato balls were pretty chewy, though.

The almond flavor was really strong—I wasn’t a fan, it kind of tasted like artificial flavoring. The tapioca pearls were freshly made and had a good bounce to them.

The red beans were also the sweetest topping—their natural sweetness meant you probably didn’t even need added sugar.

After finishing a bowl, all I wanted was water. I’m not sure if I just didn’t order well, but both bowls we got were way too sweet and left our mouths feeling sticky—not the refreshing feeling you’d hope for after ice cream. Overall, I think this place is more about the vibe—it’s a great spot for photos.
