The incident took place at around 3:40 p.m. the day before yesterday. Witnesses said four young people were climbing up along Taishan Stream but did not follow the designated hiking trail. Near the Hulu Kou Waterfall, an accident happened—one person slipped and fell off the cliff. The companions then called for police and rescue. With the huge flow of people during the Qingming holiday, firefighters faced challenges reaching the injured. Li Shifan, deputy squadron leader of Tianbei Fire Station, said it took them an hour just to climb up. By the time they found the injured hiker, he had suffered a severe blow to the back of the head and was pronounced dead.
According to the companions, they were all students from Baoshan Technical School, and the deceased was named Feng Shihui. Staff from the Wutong Mountain Management Office stated that there are designated hiking trails, and numerous warning signs have been put up across the scenic area advising visitors to stay safe. However, people still frequently take risky paths. They reiterated their reminder that hikers must comply with scenic area regulations and pay close attention to safety.
