Around 1 p.m. on the 7th, Mr. Liu, a tourist from Hebei, got trapped on a steep rock at Ghost-Frightening Peak in Xiangshan while attempting to explore. Upon learning of the incident, staff from the Xiangshan Park park rangers team quickly fetched ropes and successfully rescued Mr. Liu in less than six minutes.

"Oh my, that scared me to death." Sitting in the park rangers' office, Mr. Liu rubbed his cramped calf and still felt a slight tremble in his body. Around 1 p.m. yesterday, he and his companion climbed up to the Ghost-Frightening Peak scenic area in Xiangshan. Although the area was fenced off with signs reading "Dangerous rocks, no climbing," it did not stop Mr. Liu’s curiosity. So, he and his companion climbed over the fence and made their way to the top of the steep rock.

Afterward, Mr. Liu began descending along the side of the large rock while his companion admired the distant scenery. However, when he had descended halfway down the massive rock, he suddenly realized there was no way forward. He then tried to climb back up. But when he looked up, he was stunned—the huge rock was as sheer as if cut by a knife, rising straight up and dropping straight down. Unable to go up or down, Mr. Liu had no choice but to shout for help.

Just then, a sanitation worker noticed something was wrong, quickly approached to ask, and then informed the park rangers team. In less than a minute, nine park rangers arrived carrying ropes and other equipment.

After assessing the environment, the staff found a gentle slope about six meters below Mr. Liu. They then split into two groups—one group lowered a rope from the top of the rock, while the other group prepared to catch Mr. Liu on the gentle slope.

Seeing Mr. Liu wrap the rope around his waist, the staff above quickly held the rope tightly. Mr. Liu then slid down along the slope. As he neared the gentle slope, the staff below quickly caught him. Many onlookers witnessed the scene and applauded, cheering for the rangers. Once both feet were back on solid ground, Mr. Liu realized his calf had cramped due to the tension. With the help of the staff, he went to the park rangers’ office. After resting for more than half an hour, he and his companion left full of gratitude. (Source: Beijing Evening News)
