Sina Outdoor, February 6 According to reports from Alpinist.com, explorersweb.com and other foreign media, at 11:30 AM on February 6, 44-year-old Vitaly Gorelik from the Russian national mountaineering team died of heart failure after failing to receive timely medical treatment while climbing K2 (also known internationally as K2). On February 2, due to extreme cold weather, Vitaly Gorelik suffered frostbite on both hands and had to retreat from 7,200 meters to the base camp to await rescue.
Currently, the team leader Viktor Kozlov has announced the termination of this climb, and all team members will descend from the base camp. Viktor Kozlov has called for a helicopter to transport the body of Vitaly Gorelik from the base camp. However, due to the persistently harsh weather conditions in recent days, the helicopter has not yet been able to reach the base camp.
In the summer of 2007, Vitaly Gorelik successfully summited K2 via the western route as part of the Russian mountaineering team.
