Is it a dreamy lab or a café? One of Taoyuan’s three most popular ice dessert spots, “Long Legs Lab,” reopened in July. Its standout feature is a large, pastel-colored wall of conical flasks that’s a major Instagram hotspot. The café serves brunch, afternoon tea, and specializes in Japanese desserts, ice cream, and sandwiches, with its matcha series being the most beloved.
The 1977-born owner, Lowka, has been nicknamed “Long Legs” since childhood. He studied product design in school and later worked as an engineer in the automotive industry. By chance, he opened Long Legs Lab in 2015. What started as a tiny space for just 15 people has now expanded into the neighboring unit, with many more seats. Perhaps because there aren’t many cafés with this design style in Taoyuan, it has attracted more and more young people, often leading to long lines outside. Feeling bad about making customers wait, he decided to expand the space, which reopened in mid-July.

▲ The renovated and expanded space is now more spacious, with additional seating.
Humbly, he says he’s not a food expert. His initial idea was to conduct an experiment here—packaging everyday items with his own twist to make ordinary meals feel different. The café’s design and decor are fresh and appealing to today’s youth. Beyond that, Long Legs doesn’t cut corners on ingredients. He’s most proud of the fact that almost all the food is made fresh daily, including sauces, condensed milk, and even the meat. In this fast-food era where everything is about speed, he deliberately chooses to put in the effort and time to create food he can feel good about and even dare to eat himself.

With the July reopening, the space has grown larger, seating has increased, and the owner plans to transition into a brunch café while also offering handmade Italian Gelato. The interior is decorated with laboratory elements, featuring a white wall covered in colorful conical flasks—a charming six-tiered wall that’s impossible to look away from. There are also rows of microscopes, green plants, and dried flowers adding to the unique style, making Long Legs Lab incredibly photogenic.
Since the café is called a “Lab,” serving drinks in beakers makes perfect sense. The popular drink “Condensed Milk Black Tea” comes in a clear beaker, with adjustable sweetness levels of condensed milk, giving the classic black tea a unique twist. It feels like you’re conducting an experiment, adding an extra layer of fun.

▲ The White Pearl Matcha Thick Slice turns a simple slice of toast into something super adorable—almost every table orders it.
The most popular item is the matcha series. The White Pearl Matcha Thick Slice features six white pearls paired with matcha jam, looking incredibly cute. It has a strong matcha flavor—sweet at first, followed by the distinctive bitterness of matcha, with a lingering aftertaste. In the summer, you must try the ice. The Uji Golden Hour Ice Mountain not only looks great but also includes fluffy red beans, matcha milk ice cream, matcha shaved ice, and Q-textured white pearls. The entire bowl is packed with matcha flavor, balanced out with a drizzle of condensed milk to mellow the bitterness, making the taste even more enchanting.

▲ The Yellow Powder Milk Golden Hour and Uji Golden Hour Ice Mountains are both popular frozen treats, resembling little snowmen from afar—super cute.
The “Yellow Powder Milk Golden Hour,” made with milk ice, soybean flour, sweet red beans, and sesame ice cream, is another fan favorite. The imported Japanese black sesame ice cream has a rich, aromatic flavor, and the combination of soybean flour and milk ice is just right—but be careful when eating, as the soybean powder can easily puff up and scatter.
The menu at Long Legs Lab isn’t extensive. Lowka believes in keeping it simple, focusing on just a few classic items. He says Taiwanese people love breakfast, but their daily choices are limited, often defaulting to chain breakfast shops. Drawing from his creative background, he wants to use Long Legs Lab to add something unique to ordinary foods—whether it’s the cooking method or preparation—to give customers a different experience.
