The highly acclaimed Tibet Spring Mountaineering Conference in China’s mountaineering circles, which was suspended for two years, will resume during this year’s May Day holiday. Currently, nearly 50 mountaineering enthusiasts from Guangdong, Guangxi, Shenzhen, Beijing, Hong Kong, Hebei, Xinjiang, and local Tibetans have signed up to participate.
Nyima Tsering, head of the Tibet Mountaineering Team, said that the 10th Mountaineering Conference will be held simultaneously on Qizhi Peak and Tangra Yumco Peak. The organizers attach great importance to the event and have made all necessary preparations. The activity will run from April 28 to May 6.
Since autumn 2001, Tibet has successively organized large-scale amateur mountaineering events such as the “Jiangsanglamu Peak Mountaineering Conference,” “Qizhi Peak Mountaineering Adventure,” and “Tangra Yumco Peak Mountaineering Conference.” These events have been highly successful and well received by “mountain friends” from across the country. Participating in these conferences has become an important way for climbing enthusiasts to fulfill their climbing dreams and improve their skills. Thanks to these events, amateur mountaineering in China has shown vigorous growth.
Qizhi Peak, with an elevation of 6,206 meters, is located in Yangbajing Town, Damxung County, about 90 kilometers from Lhasa, within the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain Range. Its southern side is gently rounded, and the average slope along the climbing route is 50 degrees, making it moderately challenging. Tangra Yumco Peak, at 6,330 meters, is also situated in the middle section of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain Range within Damxung County, with an average slope of around 60 degrees, making it more difficult than Qizhi Peak.
Nyima Tsering said that this year’s mountaineering conference features a rich program, including technical exchange sessions covering basic operations of mountaineering equipment, fundamental snow walking techniques, self-arrest on snow, glacier travel skills, high-altitude illness prevention, and general mountaineering knowledge. Climbers will also be organized to scale both peaks.
For amateur mountaineers, Qizhi Peak and Tangra Yumco Peak offer moderate altitudes and climbing difficulty, convenient access, and beautiful natural landscapes, making them ideal destinations for climbing and leisure. This event is jointly organized by the Tibet Autonomous Region Sports Bureau and the Tibet Mountaineering Association, and hosted by the Tibet Mountaineering Sports Management Center and the Tibet Mountaineering Team. The organizers have arranged experienced technical guides, high-altitude support personnel, and comprehensive logistical services. In particular, the Tibet High-Altitude Rescue Team will also participate in the conference to ensure the safety of the climbs.

In addition to professional members of the Tibet Mountaineering Team, mountaineers who have successfully summited all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters in the world will also be present, engaging in “zero-distance interaction” with fellow climbers. Participants can learn mountaineering knowledge and skills from Tibet Mountaineering Team members and other experts, while the Tibetan team can also gain development insights from professionals across various industries and outstanding entrepreneurs, fostering mutual progress.
