300 cycling enthusiasts have spontaneously organized a public environmental protection campaign. In mid-April, Shijiazhuang’s first lightbox advertisement featuring a cycling-based public service campaign appeared at the intersection of Xingchen Plaza on Changjiang Avenue in the high-tech zone. The slogan “Happy Cycling, Giving Back to Life” on the poster caught the attention of passersby.
It is reported that this cycling group was established on October 10, 2011, and has grown to nearly 300 cycling enthusiasts in just half a year. With the arrival of summer, many cycling enthusiasts gather in Zhuoda Xingchen Plaza for night rides. Posting the promotional posters aims to attract more riders to join in, organizing cycling activities with structure and purpose. So far, the group has organized dozens of various cycling events. Many friends who previously commuted by car have switched to biking, inspired by the cyclists. “We want every cycling enthusiast to promote low-carbon environmentalism through their own actions and unite the love of all riders to support public welfare causes,” said Mr. Wang, head of the cycling group.
In addition to organizing daily night rides, the group also arranges weekend cycling trips to counties and districts around Shijiazhuang. Currently, the group is planning to build a cycling website as a platform to promote low-carbon environmentalism and public welfare mutual aid. Some businesses have also expressed preliminary interest in sponsoring the initiative.
