Yesterday morning, a Weibo post caught the attention of netizens. The post claimed that four hikers crossing the Qinling Mountains found a snow-collapsed tent at the summit of Zhongnan Mountain, inside which was the body of a man. The post also included a photo of the tent and the phone number of one of the hikers. A reporter contacted the hiker "Unofficial Beggar" by phone. He is from Xianyang and has nearly nine years of experience in mountain climbing and trekking. "Unofficial Beggar" said that on April 15, he and three other hikers were trekking from Zhashui Yingpan along the ancient Qin-Chu Road toward Cuihua Mountain. While scouting near the north-south boundary marker on Zhongnan Mountain, about 200 meters east of the sign, he discovered a blue tent in a small grove. "Unofficial Beggar" said that upon opening the tent, they were shocked to find a sleeping bag inside, with the lower leg of a mummified body sticking out. The tent also contained a backpack and a flashlight. "Unofficial Beggar" said that after descending the mountain, they reported the case to the Zhongnan Mountain scenic area authorities.
Yesterday afternoon, a reporter learned from the Taiyi Palace Police Station of the Chang’an Branch of the Public Security Bureau that officers from the station and the criminal investigation team had gone up the mountain to investigate the incident. Due to the long time since death, the victim’s face was no longer recognizable. The Chang’an Branch of the Public Security Bureau is currently investigating the cause of the hiker’s death.
