Six elderly men over the age of 60 from Jinzhou went on a self-guided cycling trip together. They set off from Jinzhou by bicycle, passing through Shenyang, Anshan, and Dalian, then took a ferry from Dalian to Yantai and Qingdao.
On the 16th, they joined a local tour group to visit Mount Lao. During the climb, 67-year-old Mr. Ma ignored his advanced age and the tour guide’s advice, and chose to hike up the steep peaks on foot. Unfortunately, he suffered a heart attack while climbing and collapsed on the mountain path. Despite rescue efforts, he passed away.
Mr. Ma was a retired employee of a public institution in Jinzhou. Fond of adventure and restless at heart, he often organized trips with friends to explore mountains and rivers. Earlier this month, he gathered five other friends, all over 60 years old, to go on a self-guided cycling trip.
A relevant official from the Laoshan Public Security Bureau told our reporter, “At the time, the tour guide, seeing that the elderly group was quite advanced in age, had planned to have them take the cable car up the mountain. But the elders were having so much fun that they insisted on hiking on their own. They even claimed they were 'in very good health' and turned down the guide’s advice. It was this insistence that led to the accident.”

A fellow traveler, Mr. Jing, said that around 11 a.m., the group arrived at the steep and treacherous “Sky-Seeking Cave” section of the scenic area. Right after taking photos there, Mr. Ma suddenly became dizzy and collapsed. Although everyone immediately gave him a fast-acting heart rescue pill, his condition did not improve much.
By the time the scenic area’s 120 emergency personnel arrived, Mr. Ma had already stopped breathing. Medical personnel diagnosed the cause of death as sudden myocardial infarction.
