CUG Mountaineering Team
Chutian Metropolis Daily News — Everest Base Camp Dispatch (Special Correspondent Chen Bolei, Reporter Cao Zhikai) After 12 days and 4,000 kilometers of driving from the River City to Everest Base Camp, yesterday, five fellow Wuhan natives came to visit the CUG mountaineering team members.
At around 11 a.m. that day, our reporter and a member of the CUG mountaineering team were passing through the Everest Base Camp checkpoint when they saw five tourists trying to enter the camp but being denied access.
“We’re all members of a car club. We had originally planned to drive to Tibet in September, but after seeing the Chutian Metropolis Daily’s April 5 report about the CUG mountaineering team, we set off the very next day. The CUG mountaineering team members are truly amazing—we wanted to come to Everest to meet them,” said Ji Zan, one of the car club members from the Wuhan Library. He told us their group of 11 arrived in two vehicles yesterday, with three more vehicles expected to arrive tomorrow.
Since tourists are not allowed to enter the base camp where the mountaineering team is stationed, after communication between the CUG mountaineering team secretary and the checkpoint, the five fellow travelers were allowed in. However, due to one person suffering from severe altitude sickness, they had to return down the mountain after staying for nearly three hours without even having lunch.
